Non-profit organization: The Home for the Golden Gays (Other (Not Listed) Sample) Content: The Home for the Golden GaysFounded by former public servant, and writer, Justo Justo, The Home for the Golden Gays is a hostel, and sanctuary, providing room, board, and medicines for the elderly within the LGBTQ community. The organization also provides scholarships, and free career seminars to LGBTQ youth, up to age thirty. Additionally, they also bring the two groups together, so that the LGBTQ youth may gain the benefits of being mentored by those who have gone through the same struggles that they are facing, and dealing with on a daily basis. This mentoring opportunity is a mutually empowering experience for the younger and older individuals. The members of The Home for the Golden Gays are also actively involved in promoting awareness of LGBTQ issues, as well as political and social equality for the LGBTQ community.By interacting and getting to spend time with members of The Home for the Golden Gays, I have gained a lot of insight. The Golden Gays have show n me that happiness comes from being loved and cared for, as well as from reaching out, and giving love and care to others. Despite being senior citizens who are not being cared for by their biological family members, the Golden Gays have formed, and become a family of their own. Though I met with the Golden Gays to offer them support, I gained from them more than they gained from me. With their happy and generous dispositions, and giving spirits, they embraced me within their fun-filled atmosphere, brightening our time together with their laughter and jokes.The Golden Gays have demonstrated what it means to be empowered, and happy: to love and be loved. Despite being discriminated against by both their own family members, and non-family members, the Golden Gays dont see themselves as victims.
